Dogs on Show tile for webWe once again showcased our pure breed dogs and all facets that encumbers our hobby, with the annual ‘Dogs on Show’ event.  The weather held nicely and the event was supported by exhibitors and public alike.

The day began by honouring the dedication and legacy left by the passing of Mrs Frances Wickens, with the Public Relations Committee presenting a perpetual trophy for the Best In Toy Group. Frances’ family members were present to receive the award and say a few words. Those present were her husband Wally, daughters Marie and Cassandra, as well as son-in-law Terry and grandson Joshua.

A large gathering around Ring 1 saw the show officially opened by His Worship the Mayor of Penrith, Councillor John Thain. Mr Mayor was escorted around by Mr Phil Brown and he seemed to thoroughly enjoy his time with us, even having his photo taken with Penrith Council’s mascot, ‘Boomer’ (see pictured above).

After the official opening, our Mayor then remained for the presentation of a unique and one off award, presented to Mr Don Day by our Chairman, Mrs Lynette Brown. The award that Don received was ‘The Lifetime of Meritorious Service Award.’ All four of his nominators were present to say a few words, advising the rather large gathering of their fondest memories; whether it be how Don helped and assisted them at the start of their showing life, or just his genuine care and deep seeded love of all that makes up our fancy.

Our local member Mrs Tanya Davies MP, also came to celebrate our wonderful day and participated in the Junior demonstration (see pictured below). She was then escorted around the event and took particular interest in the breed stalls and discussing matters which are relevant to our hobby.236
