Correspondence from the NSW Department of Primary Industries re DOGS NSW submission

The following was received today from the Department of Primary Industries regarding the DOGS NSW submission about the proposed changes to the regulations of POCTA.

As soon as the consultation report is released DOGS NSW will notify you about the public consultation process. When the report is released please be ready to contact your local member and also be ready to make your own submission. DOGS NSW will be preparing a response to the report.

Meanwhile, stay in contact with your local members and remind them that we are concerned to ensure hobby breeding and the activities of DOGS NSW are not adversely affected.

If the report is adverse to our interests as breeders we need to be ready for action.

Dear Stakeholder

As you are aware, NSW Department of Primary Industries recently released the draft Breeding of Dogs and Cats, and Animals in Pet Shops, Standards and Guidelines for targeted consultation.

We are writing to advise the consultation period for this draft has now ended.

We have received submissions presenting a wide range of views on the draft Standards and Guidelines. Over the coming months, we will be reviewing the feedback received and revising the draft documents.

In doing this, we will consider the potential impacts on industry participants, animal welfare needs and community expectations.

We will prepare a consultation report, which will summarise the feedback received in submissions.

This report will be published along with the revised draft Standards and Guidelines later this year for public consultation, when we will be seeking feedback from all interested stakeholders.

If you have any enquiries about the next steps, please email

Yours sincerely

Dr Bruce Christie
