The PON (Polski Owczarek Nizinny) is an ancient breed with records dating back to the 13th century and the breed has maintained its appearance throughout. They are a very loyal and family orientated breed and will treat strangers with suspicion but once they have accepted you they remain totally loyal and devoted. As they are a herding breed they tend to see us as their flock and do not appreciate being left out of family activities. The PON is a very healthy breed with few genetic health issues.
Their thick, long shaggy coat is not to be taken on half heartedly as they require a good, well maintained brushing regime to ensure tangles and matting are kept at bay as they do not shed their coat but rather roll their hair similar to us humans. PON's are double coated so they tend to not suffer from 'doggy odour'.
PON's love to play with toys (huge understatement) and require a well maintained toy chest, they do not require a lot of exercise, a good walk or play in the park once or twice per week will suffice, they also do very well to living in smaller houses or apartments providing mental stimulation is maintained, but NEVER leave your PON for extended long periods of time, or in isolation, as you will not like what you return too.
The PON has a natural aptitude for obedience and as such excels in dog sports, herding etc. There are many distinct characteristics to the PON including their smile, which once seen can never be forgotten and they have a memory that makes some humans envious, but their greatest enduring feature is their loyalty, for once you have been owned by a PON you will never be owned by any other breed.
